NOTICE OF GENERAL MEETING

To be held at the

Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Alice Springs Northern Territory

Motion:  That the requirement in Clause 6.2.1.7 of the IRCA Constitution that “nominees for IRCA Director have been an Ordinary Member Representative or Associate Member under Clause 3.1.2.1 for a cumulative period of at least one year prior to their nomination as a Director” be waived for the Board elections on 24 May 2017.  

Note: The reason for the waiving of the one-year requirement for Ordinary member representatives or Associate members to nominate is that IRCA has only been signing up members since November 2016 under the new membership structure so no current Members meet this requirement.

  1. Election of IRCA Directors

All IRCA Director positions are up for election in accordance with IRCA Constitution, as approved 27th September 2016, and IRCA’s Diversity Policy and Skills and Experience matrix.

  1. Close of Meeting

Note 1:  
Ordinary Members can attend, speak and vote at general meetings (clause 3.5.1.1)

Associate members can attend and speak (after approval by the Chair) at general meetings but do not have voting rights (3.5.2)

Affiliate Members can attend (after approval by the Chair) general meetings but do not have voting rightsCan only speak at general meetings if called up on by the Chair to do so (3.5.3)

Note 2:  
Ordinary Members may appoint a proxy to attend and vote on their behalf. The proxy will take the place of the Ordinary Member’s Representative at the general meeting. (5.10.1) A proxy may only represent a maximum of 2 other Ordinary Members at a time. (5.10.2)

The Nominee has been involved in the Media Industry in various capacities since 1987 at a creative, strategic and management level. This involvement includes a number of board positions regionally, state and nationally which has provided the opportunity to continually garner an understanding and appreciation of current trends and issues facing the industry whilst offering input into its future. Dot's work experience in media has mainly been in the Indigenous sector covering a multitude of roles including broadcast journalism, management, training and assessment, developing training tools, producer and scriptwriter. Over this time she has also been actively involved in the growth and development of Indigenous Media at the local, regional, state and national level through her many board positions along with facilitation, presentation and participation at a variety of conferences, and being an active member of the sector.
 

ELIZABETH NAPALJARRI KATAKARINJA

PAW Media & Communications(Warlpiri Media Aboriginal Corporation)

ELIZABETH
The nominee is an Arrernte woman from Ntaria with Anmatjere and Warlpiri connections. Elizabeth speaks languages and is a well-known painter. She is experienced in directing and editing short documentaries and community news bulletins. In 2010 Elizabeth completed a Certificate III in Media. Elizabeth is currently a Board member of PAW Media, Indigenous Community TV (ICTV) and Imparja Television (ITV).
 

SYLVIA TABUA

Torres Strait Islander Media Association (TSIMA)

SYLVIA
The nominee has extensive experience in the Torres Strait Media industry over the last 20 plus more years from being a trainee, staff member to also being on the board of management to now being senior producer in a key leadership role. Sylvia has a strong connection with community and understands the needs of TSIMA members along with the consistent drive and determination to also offer support, skills development and advocate for opportunities for emerging media practitioners. TSIMA is the only Torres Strait Islander media organisation represented on the IRCA network therefore it is vital that our voice and issues are represented on the IRCA board.
 

DAISY O’BYRNE

Ngaanyatjarra Media (NG Media)

DAISY
The nominee has worked with NG Media since 2013 and has been active on the NG Media board in that time as the Minyma Chairperson, as well as representing the region on the IRCA Board.
