Mikayla Friday Shaw

Administration Assistant

Mikayla is from the Northern Territory. Her mother’s homeland is called Yarralin Community, which is situated South-West of Katherine and she is a descendant of the Ngaringman tribe, which are freshwater people. She also lived with her father in Borroloola, the Yanyuwa tribe which are sea people. Although different, she enjoyed growing up in both her mother and father’s country.

As a young adult, she had to leave her communities and focus on her education. Mikayla moved to Darwin NT, where she boarded at Marrara Christian College from the years 7-12 and graduated in 2014. After accomplishing high school, she went into Charles Darwin University, where she completed (PTS) Preparation for Tertiary Success Program in 2015, then she continued to Bachelor of Social Work studies for 2 years but also had an interest in psychology and art.

Mikayla has experience in various roles within government and non-government organisations. She has a background in administration through working at the Trade Training Centre at Marrara Christian College, the Department of Children and Families and Territory Families. She has experience in childcare education through her former job at Save the Children Australia from 2013 to 2015 and creative studies through Charles Darwin University in 2018.

Mikayla is now expanding her knowledge as our Trainee Administration Assistant at First Nations Media Australia.
