The live broadcast of Yuendumu Sports Weekend by PAW Media & Communications in partnership with Indigenous Community Television Limited (ICTV) has been a resounding success.
Over the long weekend from August 5 to 8, audiences throughout remote Australia were able to tune in to ICTV, Channel 601 on the VAST network, to watch Battle of the Bands on Saturday night, and live football on Sunday and Monday afternoons, with the Grand Final playing out on Tuesday afternoon. With live streaming happening concurrently on the ICTV website (ictv.net.au), Yuendumu has spent the weekend on display, live on screens Australia wide.
This live broadcast and webcast have provided access to delighted audiences as far removed from the remote NT community as Melbourne and Canberra. Moreover, it has connected viewers from remote communities throughout Australia, granting them access to an event that they would normally have to travel thousands of kilometres to see.
Viewers from around Australia watched as Trevor Adamson opened up the Grand Final of the 51st Sports Weekend with his trademark Pitjantjatjara version of Waltzing Matilda marking the event as truly memorable and significant.
