Media Release - Phase 2 of inDigiMOB launched

Phase 2 of inDigiMOB was launched this week, expanding the delivery of digital literacy initiatives and digital mentor support in remote communities across the Northern Territory. Amelia Turner opened the launch with a warm welcome to Country and Mayor Damien Ryan spoke to the importance of collaborations, congratulating inDigiMOB for establishing positive community partnerships.

inDigiMOB is a partnership between the Indigenous Remote Communications Association (IRCA) and Telstra that aims to bridge the digital divide in remote communities in the Northern Territory. To help increase this reach, Telstra donated a brand new vehicle to IRCA for the duration of the project.

The new vehicle is a key part of enabling phase 2 delivery of inDigiMOB beyond the initial 2 pilot sites of Arlparra and the Alice Springs town camps. “We want to see all Australians connect, participate and interact safely in the digital world, irrespective of where they live – which is what this program is all about,” says Telstra Fleet Operations Manager, Steve Ellis.

As the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media, IRCA advocates for fast, accessible, affordable and reliable telecommunications and ICT access for remote communities. “We would like to thank Telstra and our community partners, Batchelor Institute and Tangentyere Council, for their continued commitment to the delivery of inDigiMOB. IRCA are now engaging with interested communities and partner organisations for the expansion of inDigiMOB into another 8 communities across the Northern Territory,” says Jennifer Nixon of IRCA.
