IRCA's Annual General Meeting was held recently during the 17th National Remote Indigenous Media Festival at Lajamanu, NT. IRCA would like to congratulate and welcome new Board members Gilmore Johnston and Simon Fisher and also congratulate Gilmore on being elected IRCA Chair. Gilmore works with Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media(link is external) and has extensive experience in the remote Indigenous media industry. He has prevously worked with IRCA and is well known throughout remote Australia.
On being elected Chair, Gilmore had this to say:
“To my fellow media friends and family, as Chair or IRCA I look forward to working with a strong team alongside me. We will do our best to listen to the people who work tirelessly across our industry. We also welcome feedback from listeners and viewers of our media services across this great country.
“A great change is happening in our industry. Now is the time to join the dots and celebrate our media - so our livelihoods, our Culture, our languages, our identity, and our way of life will be protected and remain strong forever.”
The IRCA Board and Staff would like to acknowledge and thank the previous Board, including retiring Board members Noel Heenan (PAW Media), Nelson Conboy, Brian Gordon (NG Media) and Shane White (PAW Media). We would also like to acknowledge outgoing Chair Tadam Lockyer for all his hard work over the past year during a time of change in the industry.
