ABOUT THE ROLE

ABC News are seeking passionate and motivated News Operations Assistant Trainees to contribute to the making and delivery of news content. You will develop the skills, knowledge and experience about news production for a rewarding career in the media with the ABC.

The traineeship will include on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals in areas across news, including:

• Digital newsgathering techniques and equipment.
• Cabling, set up and break down of equipment.
• Camera, audio, lighting, vision control and vision mixing.
• Operation of file and tape-based systems and associated equipment to record, edit, transfer and store content.
• Broadcast technologies and program delivery systems.

 Reporting to your Local news Editor, you will:

• Complete the ABC traineeship requirements
• Develop an understanding of news creation and delivery techniques, technologies and systems
• Assist with activities in each work place rotation, including, but not limited to Studio, Field and Post Production
• Undertake any other appropriate training courses and on the job training as required
• Develop experience working in a team environment, often under tight time pressures

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for passionate, dynamic and creative News Operations trainees looking to start their career in the media and make a significant and positive contribution to the team. You will have the opportunity to work with a top News team to source and build compelling content which reflects the diversity of views as well as the wide cultural diversity of Australian society. The appropriate support and mentoring will be provided to facilitate your success in this role.

To be successful for this role you will have:

• A passion to pursue a career in news production and willingness to learn new skills
• Aptitude for photography, cinematography, audio production, video editing and/or digital content creation
• Developed verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Strong team dedication and the ability to take direction
• Ability to problem solve, manage own workload and prioritise to ensure timely completion of tasks
• A driver’s licence
